Fairfax County leaders are asking Gov. Abigail Spanberger to take into account the local area’s unique circumstances if a drought emergency needs to be declared in Virginia.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday (June 23) authorized Chairman Jeff McKay to send a letter to Spanberger, laying out concerns of local leaders and Fairfax Water officials.
Fairfax County officials are warning residents in the Great Falls area to watch out for a potentially rabid coyote.
The coyote reportedly attacked multiple pet dogs and at least one person in and around neighborhoods along Utterback Store Road and Streamview Court during the day last Thursday, June 18, the Fairfax County Health Department said in an advisory issued Tuesday (June 23).

On Thursday, October 1, the Town of Herndon is inviting the community to take part in an interactive planning event at the Herndon Community Center and help explore possible futures for the Town.
Think of it as an expedition to Herndon’s future, with residents helping chart the course.
The event is part of Herndon 2050, the Town’s effort to update its Comprehensive Plan. The plan will help guide decisions about Herndon’s future, including how the community grows and develops in the decades ahead.
But planning for 2050 requires more than looking at maps and data. It requires hearing from the people who know Herndon best.
That’s where you come in.
During the October 1 event, participants will explore different possibilities for Herndon’s future and have opportunities to share what they think should be prioritized as the Town evolves.
Whether you’ve lived in Herndon for decades, recently moved to the community, own a business, work in Town or simply care about its future, this is an opportunity to make your voice part of the conversation.
Two sessions will be offered on October 1:
Both sessions will take place at the Herndon Community Center and offer the same interactive experience, so participants only need to attend one.
And there’s an extra reason to arrive early: the first 100 participants at each session will receive a limited-edition commemorative gift.
2050 may sound far away, but decisions made today can influence Herndon for decades.
That’s why community participation now matters.
This event is an opportunity to think beyond what Herndon looks like today and consider what you want it to become. What should we preserve? What should change? What will future generations need from their community?
There isn’t one person who can answer those questions. Herndon’s future will be shaped by the people who call it home.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously yesterday (Tuesday) to approve an updated long-term vision for Centreville that includes a defined central area, more mixed-use housing, enhanced public transit, and greater walkability.
The amendment to the county’s comprehensive plan sets a framework for growth and redevelopment over the next few decades in a sprawling suburban area covering 2,700 acres bisected by I-66. It also identifies potential county-owned locations for potential affordable housing, including a renovated Centreville library, and a hypothetical expansion of Metro’s Orange Line.
The Fairfax County Police Department has arrested an Annandale man in connection with reports of an indecent exposure and attempted abduction in Wakefield Park over the weekend.
Moises Rico Rosales, 35, was taken into custody yesterday (Tuesday) around 1:08 p.m. in the 4700 block of Americana Drive. He is charged with abduction with intent to defile as well as indecent exposure.

The Massachusetts-based chain is permanently closing its location in the Spectrum at Reston Town Center on July 15, according to a sign recently posted to the restaurant’s front door.
Fairfax County police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed and threatened a driver in the Herndon area over the weekend.
Officers responded to the reported robbery at the Parcher Avenue and Springer Drive intersection in Hutchison, just west of the Town of Herndon, at 2:44 p.m. on Saturday (June 20), according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
