Fairfax delegate leads Democratic campaign for ‘historic’ majority in Virginia House

As early voting in Virginia’s November elections came to a close on Saturday (Nov. 1), Fairfax Del. Dan Helmer (D-10) was on the road in a final push to secure a victory not just for himself, but for Democratic candidates across the state.

As the campaigns chair for the Virginia House Democratic Caucus, a role he landed based on his defeat of Fairfax County’s last Republican delegate, Tim Hugo, in 2019, Helmer has been tasked with overseeing races in all 100 House districts — every single one of which will have a Democrat on the ballot.

BREAKING: Sizemore Heizer wins Democratic nod in Braddock District supervisor race

Rachna Sizemore Heizer has won the Democratic nomination in the race for Braddock District supervisor.

The fifth-year Fairfax County School Board member bested three other candidates in this weekend’s primary election, giving her the party’s nod in the race to succeed James Walkinshaw, who resigned last month, on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

JUST IN: Tech failure leads Democrats to extend voting in Braddock primary

It will take at least one more day for local Democrats to decide on their nominee in the race for Braddock District supervisor.

Voting has been extended to tomorrow after technological issues led to extremely long waits at two of the three polling places used for the primary today (Saturday), the Fairfax County Democratic Committee announced.

Democrats opt for ranked choice voting to select Braddock District nominee

Democratic voters in Fairfax County’s Braddock District have yet another visit to the polls to add to their calendar.

Even as early voting continues for the statewide Nov. 4 general election, the Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC) has scheduled a firehouse primary for Oct. 4 to determine its nominee for Braddock District supervisor.

Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw is now one election away from succeeding his political mentor in Congress.

Walkinshaw bested nine other candidates in a firehouse primary to secure the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, local party officials announced today (Saturday) shortly before midnight.

Democrats report high turnout in early primary voting for Rep. Connolly’s seat

Undeterred by long lines, more than 5,000 Fairfax County Democrats cast ballots during the party’s early voting period for the 11th Congressional District primary.

With turnout steadily increasing over the three days from Tuesday through Thursday (June 23-26), a total of 5,085 votes were cast — including a high of 1,793 yesterday, the final day before tomorrow’s scheduled primary election.

Democratic Congressional candidates make their pitch to succeed the late Gerry Connolly

Local Democrats seeking to succeed the late Rep. Gerry Connolly sought to distinguish themselves from a crowded field yesterday (Wednesday), outlining how they would represent Virginia’s 11th Congressional District if elected.

Nine of the 10 candidates vying for the Democratic nomination attended the party’s lone forum at the Reston Community Center in Hunters Woods ahead of a primary election on Saturday (June 28).
