The 2022 general election is still almost five months away, but at least one Fairfax County supervisor already has his eyes on 2023.

Lee District Supervisor Rodney Lusk announced yesterday (Monday) that he will seek a second term in the office, though it may bear a different name by the time voters hit the polls.

For the second time in the past month, Reston Association’s Board of Directors has appointed a new board member — a process that is typically conducted with a member-driven election.

Margaret Perry fills the Hunters Woods/Dogwood seat that was vacated by Caren Anton in May. Perry, a government contractor, beat out candidates David Crocker, Radhika Gupta Murari, and Carol Nahorniak, who also vied for the position.

A trio of candidates is seeking the position of mayor for the Town of Herndon, typically a non-competitive race.

Councilmembers Sean Regan and Jasbinder Singh are running against current Mayor Sheila Olem to fill the seat for the upcoming 2023-2024 term.

Another Reston Association board member has resigned following April’s uncontested election.

Caren Anton, director of the Hunters Woods/Dogwood District, resigned from RA’s Board of Directors yesterday (Tuesday) morning, leaving the association with another vacant seat to fill.

Reston Association‘s Board of Directors has voted to fill a board seat vacated by Tim Dowling.

At a board meeting last night (Thursday), the board narrowly selected John Farrell to take Dowling’s seat from a pool of four candidates who submitted applications.

(Updated at 12:15 a.m. on 5/25/2022) The McLean Community Center saw a noticeable uptick in participation for its latest governing board election.

A total of 2,504 ballots were cast to determine three new adult board members and two teen members, MCC reported in its preliminary results. That is roughly four times the 606 voters who turned out for last year’s election.


Countywide

Local Republicans nominated Karina Lipsman on Saturday (May 21) to seek the U.S. House seat currently held by Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.).

Early voting is underway for the June 21 Democratic primary to determine whether Lipsman faces Beyer or challenger Victoria Virasingh in the November general election. Portions of Fairfax County in the new 8th District include McLean, Bailey’s Crossroads, Annandale, and the Route 1 corridor.


Countywide

Republicans have chosen a former U.S. judge to take on incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District this fall.

Jim Myles received the party’s nomination on Saturday (May 7) following a four-round canvass that started with five candidates. He won with 959 votes: 59% of the vote.

(Updated at 11:20 a.m. on 5/6/2022) Fairfax County will kick off early voting for the June 21 Democratic primary tomorrow (Friday), but with only one race on the ballot, turnout will likely be muted.

Incumbent Don Beyer faces political newcomer Victoria Virasingh in the 8th Congressional District. It will be the county’s first primary under new district maps drawn and approved by the Virginia Supreme Court last December.
