It’s Earth Day — The Fairfax County Park Authority launched a new Earth Day website this week to provide information on upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and ways to promote environmental stewardship. Community Raises $20K for Young Reston Soccer Player — “Aaron, a player in the Great Falls-Reston Soccer Club, recently told his coach that he couldn’t come to practice because he didn’t have any cleats. The elite soccer player explained that he was one of the 15 people who’d been displaced by a fire at the Stonegate Village Apartment complex in Reston on April 10.” [Patch]

The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office has 71 vacancies. There are over 200 vacancies at the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. And that’s not all.

Staff vacancies continue to be a challenge at county agencies across the board, administrators and employee leaders told the Board of Supervisors at budget hearings last week.

Fairfax County firefighters have been working for almost two hours now to extinguish a fire at an apartment in the Fair Oaks area.

Units arrived on the scene in the 4200 block of Mozart Brigade Lane before 11 a.m., the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reported on social media.

Vienna was shaken on Saturday (April 16) when a fire tore through a house that has stood in the town for more than a century.

Units from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were called to the 100 block of Park Street NE around 4:28 a.m. for a house fire.

A truck is leaking fuel onto I-495, prompting a closure of two southbound lanes under the George Washington Memorial Parkway in McLean.

Two right lanes on the I-495 Outer Loop are currently blocked, as crews work to plug the leak and contain the spilled fuel, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

(Updated at 11:10 a.m.) One person was injured and 15 people were displaced in a Reston apartment fire that happened last night (Sunday).

Crews responded to a fire that broke out in the 2200 block of Stone Wheel Drive, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Firefighters rescued two cats from a house fire in McLean last night (Monday) caused by a kerosene lamp.

One of two occupants was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department wrote in a news release.

The ongoing renovation of Cooper Middle School is heating up — literally.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units put out “a very small, smoldering fire in a construction area” next to the school at 977 Balls Hill Road around noon today (Tuesday).
