The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) is advising residents to be careful when storing lithium-ion batteries in the wake of a recent house fire.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 1500 block of Millikens Bend Road in the Dranesville area north of Herndon on Saturday, May 3 just before 7:30 p.m. for the reported fire, the FCFRD says.

A tanker truck is leaking gas into Difficult Run in Great Falls after crashing on a bridge over the stream early this morning (Thursday).

Fairfax County police and units from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to Leigh Mill Road at Kelso Road around 3:07 a.m. for a truck carrying “hazardous materials” that crashed on the bridge, according to scanner traffic.

Captain Barry Maham, who served with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) for more than 25 years, has died of an occupational-related cancer.

Maham, 50, died Monday (March 31), nearly four-and-a-half years after he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. His death is considered to have occurred in the line of duty, the department said.

A strewn cigarette butt appears to be the cause of a two-alarm house fire in Springfield over the weekend.

The “improper disposal of smoking materials” caused more than $90,000 in damages to a house in the 7000 block of Hill Stream Court on Sunday (March 30), the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said.

A truck caught fire after colliding with a sedan on I-66 in the Vienna area earlier this afternoon (Monday), requiring a shutdown of all westbound lanes.

Units with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to I-66 West prior to Nutley Street for the crash around 1:15 p.m., per scanner traffic.

The past week has been busy for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD), which is investigating the causes of incidents in Annandale, Bailey’s Crossroads and McLean.

Most recently, firefighters were dispatched at 12:13 a.m. today (Wednesday) to the 6600 block of Locust Way in Annandale for a house fire. Upon arriving, crews found “heavy fire” throughout the single-family home.

Seven people were taken to a hospital as a result of a house fire that occurred Friday afternoon (March 7) in the Crosspointe area near Lorton.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) dispatched units around 2 p.m. to a single-family home in the 8300 block of Ivy Green Road after getting calls for a fire in the attached garage.
