A Falls Church man has been charged with a hit and run after crashing into multiple vehicles on the Capital Beltway (I-495) in McLean yesterday (Thursday), bringing traffic during the afternoon rush-hour to a halt.

In footage from a Virginia Department of Transportation traffic camera shared by public safety blogger Dave Statter, the driver of a white van was captured plowing into several northbound vehicles and then jumping over the median to the interstate’s southbound lanes around 4 p.m.

A man who was hospitalized while in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center has died, triggering a police investigation.

Todd Matthew Gleason, 51, died Tuesday morning (July 4) just hours after a magistrate approved his release, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. He was taken to a hospital from the jail on Monday after telling sheriff’s deputies that he had “pain to his stomach and leg,” police said.

(Updated at 5:25 p.m.) A 37-year-old man was fatally shot last night (Thursday) at a parking garage in Herndon’s Arrowbrook Centre development.

The Fairfax County Police Department identified the victim this afternoon (Friday) as Robert Fisher of Chantilly. A 40-year-old man from Herndon, Major Feheem Stokes, was arrested yesterday as the suspect.

(Updated at 10:35 a.m.) An employee of the Fairfax County Department of Family Services has been arrested for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a woman last week.

Detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau arrested Ernest Melo, 35, of Centreville on Sunday (July 2) after the victim reported the June 28 assault to police a day earlier.

A long-delayed effort to outfit Fairfax County Public Schools’ buses with cameras has officially received the green light from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

At a meeting yesterday (Tuesday), the board unanimously approved an agreement allowing the Fairfax County Police Department to participate in a program that will install 50 bus camera systems to detect drivers who don’t stop when buses are boarding and off-loading students.

Local police have released a composite sketch from a June 18 early morning shooting outside the Ashford Meadows Apartments in Herndon.

Officers discovered that a man had been shot at around 4 a.m. in the 2500 block of Cornelia Road. He was found shot multiple times in the upper body in the parking lot, police said.

Local police are investigating a spree of thefts from unlocked cars in Reston.

Police believe suspects have entered more than 30 unlocked cars and stolen valuables, like purses, credit cards, cash and electronics, between May and June. The suspects were captured on surveillance footage recently, the Fairfax County Police Department announced yesterday (Tuesday).

(Updated at 3:30 p.m.) The driver behind a fatal April 21 crash in Seven Corners was speeding at over 100 mph, Fairfax County police now say.

The Fairfax County Police Department has identified Mirza Baig, 26, of Alexandria as the driver responsible for the crash, which killed 37-year-old Christina Hamilton and injured both Baig and a passenger.

A man who was shot in Herndon on Sunday (June 18) remains in critical condition, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Police said the man was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body on Sunday morning in the 2500 block of Cornelia Road. That day, he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
