The Fairfax County Planning Commission gave its support last week to a mixed-use development dubbed McLean Crossing in Tysons.

The proposal for redeveloping the Commons of McLean apartments at 1640 Anderson Road will now be considered for final approval by the Board of Supervisors in the new year. Ultimately, as many as 5,000 people could call the property their home.

Fairfax County officials are working to get to know roughly 1,750 residents of the area’s eight manufactured homes better.

“We are really hoping to understand the needs,” Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development Affordable and Manufactured Housing Program Manager Ivana Escobar told the Board of Supervisors housing committee at a Tuesday (Nov. 26) meeting.

Redevelopment of vacant commercial parcels in Springfield into housing is one step closer to reality, though there are still contentious issues to be worked through later in the process.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Comprehensive Plan amendments on Tuesday (Nov. 19) to permit up to 732 multifamily units and ground-floor non-residential uses on multiple parcels along Springfield Blvd and Amherst Avenue.

The new townhomes under construction along Route 7 in Pimmit Hills have all been snapped up.

Developer EYA announced in late October that all 104 townhouses in Tysons Ridge have been sold, months ahead of the anticipated completion of construction.

Homebuyers across Fairfax County paid, on average, 7.8% more per square foot in October than they did a year before.

Fairfax’s average per-square-foot price of $374, up from $347 in October 2023, was in the middle of the Northern Virginia pack, but the year-over-year increase was on the high side across the D.C. region and broader Mid-Atlantic corridor.

A proposal for new housing in the Woodland Park community near Herndon is moving to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission voted unanimously on Wednesday (Nov. 13) to approve the plan by Pulte Homes to put two five-story buildings with 72 total residential units on a parcel near the intersection of the Dulles Access Road and Centreville Road, just north of Sunrise Valley Drive.

The Town of Vienna is looking to further illuminate its regulations for outdoor lighting after adopting new standards last year with a comprehensive zoning code overhaul.

The town’s Department of Planning and Zoning will hold two information sessions tomorrow (Wednesday) — one geared toward local businesses and the other for residents — to share its plans for updating the rules and gather feedback.

A townhome development is now under construction on Fannie Mae’s former office campus in Reston.

When setting the stage for construction, which began in August, developer Wheelock Communities enlisted the nonprofit Tanya’s Turtle Project to relocate turtles inhabiting the ponds in the area. The ponds were dewatered to manage water quality and remove invasive plants in and around the ponds.

A residential development that promised to introduce a new housing option to the Town of Vienna is getting closer to welcoming its first occupants.

Under construction since early 2024, The Grove on Park condominiums at 133 Park Street NE are on track to deliver their first completed units by the end of this year, likely in late November, according to The Mayhood Company, which is managing sales of the homes.

Pulte Home Company is planning to build two apartment buildings in the existing Caywood at Woodland Park office complex near the Herndon Metro Station.

The proposed development is set to go before the Fairfax County Planning Commission tonight (Wednesday). If approved, the county would rezone the 12-acre site from planned development commercial to residential in order to allow 72 multi-family residential units across two five-story buildings.
