Two Fairfax County Police Department commanders have been dropped from a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the mother of the victim in a fatal police shooting.

A federal judge on Friday (Aug. 8) granted the removal of both Deputy Chief Wilson Lee and Major Scott Colwell from the civil lawsuit initiated by the mother of Timothy Johnson, who was killed by a police officer during a chase in February 2023.

Herndon is officially taking legal action against Comstock Companies after the developer backed out of its long-stalled downtown redevelopment project last year.

The town filed a lawsuit in Fairfax County Circuit Court this afternoon (Friday) demanding that Comstock return the nearly 5-acre site that it planned to transform into a mixed-use block with an arts center, apartments, retail space and a parking garage.

A Fairfax County School Board member accused of defrauding a company he is a part owner of out of more than $1.5 million has stepped away as chairman of the board’s budget committee.

Kyle McDaniel, an at-large representative, no longer oversees the committee, having willingly ceded the position to vice chair Rachna Sizemore Heizer in recent weeks, he confirmed to FFXnow.

Several Northern Virginia school districts, including Fairfax County Public Schools, are in the crosshairs of the U.S. Department of Education after a conservative legal group filed a complaint challenging their transgender-inclusive bathroom and locker room policies.

The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) opened an investigation this week into Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun and Prince William schools in response to the complaint from America First Legal, a nonprofit founded by former Trump advisor Stephen Miller.

A right-wing group’s lawsuit challenging Fairfax County Public Schools policies designed to be inclusive of transgender and other gender non-conforming students will be allowed to move forward.

Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Brett A. Kassabian issued an order last Friday (Dec. 6) mostly overruling an attempt by the Fairfax County School Board to dismiss the civil suit, which argues that policies requiring students to be identified and treated based on their gender identity violate the rights of students who don’t want to follow those policies.

Dozens of Kimley-Horn and Associates employees experienced health issues after being exposed to toxic gases in the Reston Station office where they worked, the North Carolina-based engineering firm alleges in a recent court filing.

Kimley-Horn shared the allegations on Nov. 6 in response to a lawsuit filed in October by landlord and Reston Station developer Comstock, which is accusing its tenant of underpaying rent for the three suites it leases at 11400 Commerce Park Drive.
