A 46-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash on Hooes Road in Lorton late last week.

Springfield resident Samuel Gensler was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson north on Hooes Road Friday (May 19) afternoon when he lost control at the curve approaching the Crosspointe Glen Way intersection, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Fifteen years after it emerged from the shell of the former Lorton prison, the Workhouse Arts Center will take the spotlight at Capital One Hall in Tysons as the top honoree of the 2023 ArtsFairfax Awards.

The center will receive the Jinx Hazel Award at the annual ceremony and fundraising event on Oct. 26, ArtsFairfax, the county’s official arts agency, announced earlier this month.

Fairfax County police are investigating an apparent domestic dispute that involved a Centreville man and his family’s dog getting stabbed.

A 22-year-old man from Centreville was arrested by Virginia State Police on Tuesday (April 25) after a pursuit that extended into Lorton. He has been charged with malicious wounding, animal cruelty, and disregarding police commands to stop.

(Updated at 9:55 a.m. on 3/17/2023) The Fairfax County Police Department has investigated a three-car crash in Lorton from November that its detectives only recently learned was fatal.

Detectives were notified last week that Alverda Boyce, 74, of Woodbridge died on Nov. 29 from injuries sustained in a Nov. 2 crash at the intersection of Ox Road and Palmer Drive, the police department said today (Thursday).

A federal judge sentenced Alpha Amin Kamara to 135 months in prison on Friday (March 10) for engaging in a conspiracy to distribute thousands of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl around Northern Virginia, federal prosecutors announced.

(Updated at 1:15 p.m.) A Woodbridge man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a man in Lorton on New Year’s Eve.

Robert William Peters Jr., 23, turned himself in to Fairfax County police detectives on Monday night (Jan. 2), two days after 42-year-old Lorton resident Nahom Beyene was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the 9500 block of Unity Lane.

Updated at 9:45 a.m. on 12/23/2022Five people were displaced by Tuesday’s Lorton house fire, which caused $244,162 in damages, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said Wednesday (Dec. 21). The cause remains under investigation.
