Reston Man Indicted for Animal Cruelty — “Sheheryar Kamran, a 20-year-old resident of Reston, Virginia, was indicted on three federal charges related to animal cruelty for allegedly creating and posting videos on social media showing him abusing and killing hamsters. Kamran pleaded ‘not guilty’ in a federal court in Alexandria on February 24, 2022. He is currently awaiting trial set for May 16, 2022.” [FOX5]

A phrase that started as a basketball trick has translated into a social media empire and a restaurant for two Fairfax County natives.

Halal Wrist began as a clever maneuver of the hand that enabled Soufiane Bernoukh to make a perfect basketball shot. The trick shot was caught on video and soon went viral on TikTok and was coined “Halal Wrist.” Halal is an Islamic term that denotes permissibility.

The finalists for the D.C.-area restaurant industry’s annual RAMMY Awards are out, and a few Fairfax County hotspots made the cut.

Organized by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), a regional trade and advocacy group, the 40th annual RAMMYs represent a shift toward normalcy after two years of slightly modified proceedings to reflect the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Duck Chang’s, a family restaurant that set its roots down in Annandale nearly 50 years ago, is charting an uncertain future.

Located in a strip mall at 4427 John Marr Drive, the restaurant — which has been in the Chang family for generations — has launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover more than $100,000 in renovations that the property’s new owners asked the restaurant to complete.

Town Manager Bill Ashton is exploring ways to permanently implement outdoor dining, which was initially approved to help businesses survive during the pandemic and minimize COVID-19 transmission — a process that he says requires more research into legal and logistical ramifications.
