It’s been nearly one year since the position of Reston Association’s CEO became vacant.

RA’s Board of Directors continues to meet in a series of closed meetings to discuss the nearly year-long search after previous CEO Hank Lynch announced his resignation in August.

For the second time in the past month, Reston Association’s Board of Directors has appointed a new board member — a process that is typically conducted with a member-driven election.

Margaret Perry fills the Hunters Woods/Dogwood seat that was vacated by Caren Anton in May. Perry, a government contractor, beat out candidates David Crocker, Radhika Gupta Murari, and Carol Nahorniak, who also vied for the position.

Criminal Case for Bijan Ghaisar Shooting Ends — The Justice Department won’t reopen a federal investigation into two U.S. Park Police officers who fatally shot McLean resident Bijan Ghaisar in 2017. Assessments for Reston Association members could increase by 10% over last year based on preliminary budget talks.

At an RA Board of Directors meeting Wednesday night (June 8), board treasurer Bob Petrine kicked off a preliminary discussion on the budget and a proposed increase.

Over Memorial Day weekend, five of Reston Association’s pools remained closed due to a lack of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), medical devices used in emergencies when someone’s heart stops.

As the second pool season kicked off on Saturday (May 28), Reston Association says the AED shortage is nearly resolved. On Tuesday, RA received four of the five AEDs staff needed.

Reston Association is appealing a Fairfax County decision requiring additional planning approvals for proposed upgrades at the Barton Hill tennis courts.

The county contends that, in addition to a site plan approval, RA needs to get an amendment to the existing Planned Residential Community (PRC) Plan approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors before installing lights at the tennis court facility.

Another Reston Association board member has resigned following April’s uncontested election.

Caren Anton, director of the Hunters Woods/Dogwood District, resigned from RA’s Board of Directors yesterday (Tuesday) morning, leaving the association with another vacant seat to fill.

West Falls Church Apartment Fire Displaces Residents — Assisted by Arlington and Fairfax City, Fairfax Count fire investigators are looking into a two-alarm apartment fire that damaged 12 units in the 2900 block of Dover Lane on Sunday (May 29). Reston Association‘s Board of Directors has voted to fill a board seat vacated by Tim Dowling.

At a board meeting last night (Thursday), the board narrowly selected John Farrell to take Dowling’s seat from a pool of four candidates who submitted applications.

(Updated at 11:45 a.m. on 5/25/2022) A man was rescued from North Shore pool in Reston Sunday afternoon (May 22) after a team effort. 

According to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, an older man was swimming laps at the pool when he had a medical emergency.
