The Farm at Halley Rise is gearing up for a busy summer of gardening, yoga and more.
The urban farm run by Up Top Acres at 2025 Fulton Place in Reston announced its schedule of summer events yesterday (Wednesday), starting with a “Growing in Small Spaces” gardening workshop on June 17. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., an Up Top Acres farmer will offer tips on how to grow food when space is limited.
Plea Deal Rejected in Annandale Abduction Case — “A Fairfax County judge rejected a plea deal for a suspected child sex offender, saying it would put the community in danger. Fairfax City Council Considers Pay Raises — “Mayor Catherine Read and members of the Fairfax City Council met at Historic Blenheim Tuesday night for their annual retreat. Capital Bikeshare Sets Monthly Ridership Record — “Capital Bikeshare (CaBi) broke the all-time monthly ridership record in May 2024, recording 515,394 trips across the Washington, DC, metro area. Dulles Airport Has U.S.’s Most Expensive Domestic Flights — “For the third year in a row, it’s been named as the domestic airport with the highest average fares. Reston Association will welcome the community back to its Shadowood swimming pool later this month with a grand reopening party.
The celebration on Saturday, June 15 will start with a ribbon-cutting at 10:30 a.m., followed by refreshments, pool games, DJ entertainment and other activities, RA announced yesterday (Tuesday). With six other pools opening that day, this summer is the first since 2019 where all 15 of RA’s aquatics facilities will be operating.
The Fairfax County Police Department hopes to slam the brakes on street racing and rowdy car meets, among other issues, with a new summer crime prevention initiative.
The three-month campaign launched yesterday (Tuesday) with an initial focus on “community-based crimes,” particularly the “reckless street takeovers” that have periodically cropped up around the county and activities at bars and other late-night businesses, the FCPD said in a press release.

Sola Salons is gearing up to open at Plaza America in Reston later this summer, keeping it on track with the previously reported timeline for its newest location.
“The Reston location will open closer to the end of summer and is corporately owned,” Sola Salons Marketing Director Liz Eggert told FFXnow via email. “The location will also have 63 chairs/salons within the location.”
