A Flood Watch has been issued for Fairfax County and the rest of the D.C. area.

The alert will be in effect from 11 p.m. today (Friday) through 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday), according to the National Weather Service, which warns that “excessive” rainfall may lead to flash flooding.

Since 1991, people outside the Town of Herndon have been able to take advantage of its parks and recreation scholarship program, which awards fee waivers to participants enrolled in federally-funded, low-income programs.

A proposal before the Herndon Town Council aims to restrict eligibility for that program to town residents. If adopted by the council, the move would align with neighboring jurisdictions that offer fee waivers to residents only.

Huntington House Fire Displaces Six — Fairfax County and Alexandria City firefighters responded to a house fire in the 2500 block of Massey Court at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday (July 6). Started accidentally in “an electrical event involving the attic fan,” the blaze displaced six residents and caused approximately $134,500 in damages, though no injuries were reported. [FCFRD]

Body, Possibly of Missing Man, Found in Newington — “Fairfax County Police say they found a body inside a car thought to belong to a man missing since May. According to officials, 53-year-old Juan Ward from Woodbridge, Virginia, was last seen on May 24…Police said Ward disappeared under unusual circumstances.” [WUSA9]

(Updated at 3 p.m. on 7/8/2022) A man with no fixed address is facing charges for allegedly robbing a bank and a Safeway in Herndon this month.

Fairfax County police arrested the man near Reston around 2:20 p.m. yesterday (Thursday) after a roughly two-hour search that involved a helicopter, K9 unit, and the Herndon Police Department.

Elections in the Town of Herndon could see some big changes as early as next year.

At a meeting earlier this week, Herndon Town Council began preliminary discussions on changes to elections, including the possibility of increasing and staggering the terms of office and instituting term limits.

(Updated at 11:25 a.m.) A pedestrian was killed in a crash on the Dulles Airport Access Highway Tuesday night (July 5). 

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was hit by a vehicle in the westbound lanes of the highway near the Reston Parkway interchange, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, whose police responded to the incident at 9:20 p.m.
