(updated at 5:20 p.m.) After initially being reported as a shooting, Fairfax County Police believe a man who was found with life-threatening injuries at a parking garage in Fairfax may have injured himself after jumping from the garage.

They said they don’t have reason to believe now that there was a shooting or criminal activity.

Fairfax County police have charged a 31-year-old Falls Church man with the Feb. 21 fatal shooting in Centreville.

Officers said Richard Kenneth Pearson IV went to the townhome in the London Towne area on the night that Amaru Amin Shabazz, 37, was killed. Police said Pearson was there to visit someone who lived there.

Woman Dies in Crash on I-495 — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash on I-495 near the Eisenhower Avenue Connector in the Rose Hill area. The crash occurred at 9:27 p.m. on Saturday (March 5) when a sedan hit a disabled vehicle, causing it to catch fire. The driver of the disabled vehicle died at the scene, while the sedan driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence. FCPS Will Start COVID-19 Rollback Plan Tomorrow — Masks will be optional for both students and adults, including staff and parents, in Fairfax County Public Schools after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed its health metrics so that the county is now considered to have low transmission. FCPS said on Friday (Feb. 25) that masks would be optional for students, as ordered by a state law, but still mandatory for adults. [FCPS]

Judge Calls TJ Admissions Discriminatory — The Coalition for TJ on Friday (Feb. 25) won its lawsuit against the Fairfax County School Board over changes to admissions process for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. The judge found that the shift from a standardized test to “experience” factors was done in a way discriminatory to Asian applicants. The school system intends to appeal. [The Washington Post]

Fairfax County police identified the man killed in a shooting in Centreville on Monday night (Feb. 21) as a 37-year-old Leesburg resident.

Police officers responded around 10 p.m. to a townhouse in the 14800 block of Bodley Square in the London Towne area and found Amaru Amin Shabazz inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds, the department said in a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal shooting that was reported just before 10 p.m. Monday in the 14800 block of Bodley Square. That is in the London Towne area of Centreville.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene. Sgt. Tara Gerhard, police spokeswoman, says this killing was not a random act and there is some sort of relationship between the victim and a man suspected of killing him.

A Fairfax County Police Department recruit and his wife have died after apparently “self-inflicted” shootings, police confirmed today (Monday).

Fairfax County police responded twice to a house in the 4200 block of Sonia Court, just down Route 1 from the South County Government Center in the Mount Vernon area on Saturday (Feb. 26), according to the police report.

(updated at 4:05 p.m.) A Fairfax County Police officer shot a 34-year-old man in Lorton this morning (Tuesday) after responding to a call for a suspicious van in a neighborhood.

At a press conference, Police Chief Kevin Davis said the man inside the van raised a rifle in the direction of police when one of the two responding officers shot him. He is in stable condition at a local hospital, Davis said.

Updated at 2:30 p.m. —  A woman sought after a fatal shooting near the City of Fairfax has been arrested in Harrisonburg. Fairfax County police said that charges and more details will follow.

Police are still trying to determine what provoked a man to shoot and kill one man and injure another early Saturday evening in Hybla Valley.

According to Howard Ludwig, Fairfax County police spokesman, it started around 6:20 p.m. on Richmond Highway at Dart Drive at the bus stop. That is where the suspect reportedly became involved in an argument with the victim and shot him.
