A Maryland man has been convicted of cocaine possession after the drug was found in a cake he transported from Colombia to Dulles International Airport last spring.

Gildo Ricci, a 69-year-old Peruvian citizen who legally resides in Rockville, had 2.07 kilograms of cocaine concealed in food that customs agents discovered in his luggage on April 25, 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

A former Fairfax City property manager will serve two years in prison for embezzling money from the 70-plus homeowners’ associations she served.

Rose Kasande Bailey, a 60-year-old Warrenton resident, was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday (Tuesday) after pleading guilty in August to wire fraud, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia announced.

Inova has agreed to pay nearly $2.4 million to settle allegations that it falsified Medicaid reimbursement claims tied to sterilization and hysterectomy procedures.

The settlement comes after Inova voluntarily disclosed issues to federal and state authorities, revealing that some Medicaid claims were improperly modified by employees between January and August 2020, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced on Friday (Nov. 15).

U.S. District Judge Michael Nachmanoff sentenced Jahrulle Terrence Whyte t0 10 years or 120 months in prison yesterday (Thursday) after the 29-year-old Glen Burnie resident pleaded guilty earlier this year to distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl.

Two men have been sentenced to prison in connection with a 2023 armed robbery of a check-cashing business in Chantilly.

Al Gibran Taylor, 42, of Reston and Antonio Chester Lewis, 39, of Oxon Hill were sentenced by a federal judge after pleading guilty to gun-related charges earlier this summer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia said in a press release.

A former Fairfax County sheriff’s deputy will serve six years in prison for distributing drugs to a jail inmate and to women who engaged in prostitution at an apartment he leased, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia says.

The sentence was handed down yesterday (Wednesday) after Robert Theodore Sanford Jr., 37, pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to distribute cocaine and opioids, including fentanyl and suboxone, and to providing contraband in prison.

Cedric Minger, 22, of Maryland was sentenced yesterday (Wednesday) to serve nine years and six months behind bars by the U.S. District Court for Virginia’s Eastern District. Victor Jones, 22, of Washington, was sentenced to nine years earlier this month in the same court.
