UPDATED: Teen shot near Culmore, suspects seen fleeing

(Updated at 5:05 p.m. on 4/18/2023) A 14-year-old teenager was shot near the Culmore shopping center.

Fairfax County police were dispatched to the intersection of Bellview Drive and Glen Carlyn Drive at 5:23 p.m., according to scanner traffic from Open MHz.

Scanner traffic indicated that one person sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The boy was transported to a hospital for his injuries, which may be life-threatening, the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Two other teenagers were seen running down Bellview towards Glenmore Drive, according to police.

“Preliminarily, detectives believe that two suspects are known to the victim,” the FCPD said in a news release. “The victim was shot multiple times.”

A dispatcher reported that there were several callers saying they have teenagers “that were shot at but not hit.” An officer on the scene said they had recovered a gun that the person who got shot reportedly “was waving around.”

Police established a perimeter across Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) in the hopes of trapping the suspects. A helicopter was dispatched to the scene. The FCPD advised avoiding the area.

This appears to be the second shooting in the Culmore area this year. Two people were hospitalized after getting shot on Glen Carlyn Drive on Jan. 5.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
