Reported theft at Greenbriar Town Center spurs police chase on I-66

A police chase that started with a larceny report in the Fair Oaks area ended last night (Thursday) with three people getting arrested on I-66 in Arlington County.

Officers were dispatched to Bath and Body Works in Greenbriar Town Center (13009 Route 50) around 5:59 p.m. in response to a larceny, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“Officers were given the suspects’ vehicle description and learned that they had committed a larceny at a different establishment earlier in the day,” the FCPD said.

The earlier larceny was reported at Kohl’s (5793 Burke Centre Parkway) in Burke, the department told FFXnow.

The responding officers tried to stop the identified vehicle, but the driver “disregarded the officer’s signal” and took off, according to the FCPD. The pursuit moved onto eastbound I-66, leading the Virginia State Police to get involved.

VSP troopers ultimately stopped the fleeing vehicle near the N. Ohio Street overpass in the East Falls Church area. Traffic camera footage of the incident shared by local public safety watcher Dave Statter shows a black SUV briefly weaving into rush-hour traffic before getting boxed in by police vehicles.

According to the FCPD, three people were arrested. Two of them have been charged with grand and petit larceny, including a man who also faces an assault charge. A third person, a woman, has been charged two felonies for speeding to elude law enforcement and aiding a larceny, both felonies.
