Jefferson Manor Park will soon undergo construction to enhance access for people with disabilities.

The park, located off of Farmington Road in Groveton near the Huntington Metro station, will soon see the addition of new trails that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Fairfax County Park Authority recently announced.

Construction, led by TMG Construction, is set to begin in mid-July and is expected to be completed by early fall 2024, depending on the weather.

“The construction at Jefferson Manor Park will ensure general accessibility improvements comply with the Department of Justice federal mandate to meet the 2010 ADA Standards for public facilities,” the park authority said in its release.

The planned enhancements include linking existing park amenities with ADA-accessible trails, establishing an ADA-compliant parking space, upgrading the restrooms and shelter structures for better accessibility, and providing ADA access to the existing entrance that serves the adjoining residential community.

Officials emphasized that the enhancements will not alter the existing amenities and facilities within the park and are expected to have minimal impact on the local environment, including the preservation of existing trees.

Throughout the construction period, Jefferson Manor Park will remain open to the public, but visitors are advised to avoid designated construction zones. Construction traffic will occasionally enter and exit the park via Farmington Drive, with operations scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
