Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Route 28 in the Centreville area on Monday (June 17).

According to the VSP, Juan Rossi Jr., a 25-year-old from Centreville, was riding his 2017 Yamaha YZF on the Route 28 North exit ramp to I-66 East when he “lost control, ran off the road, and hit a guardrail.”

Rossi died at the scene.

Police say he was wearing a helmet, but the VSP is determining whether he may have been speeding at the time of the crash.

“The crash remains under investigation,” the VSP said in a news release published today (Thursday).

Five motorcyclists have now died in crashes in Fairfax County this year, including ones on Route 7 in Bailey’s Crossroads, on Old Keene Mill Road in Burke, on Rolling Road in Newington and on South Kings Highway in Groveton.

Drivers involved in the Bailey’s Crossroads and Burke crashes were later charged with failing to yield on a left turn, while a driver in the Groveton crash was charged with driving under the influence.
