Nearly six years after opening, Burgers Grilled Right (BGR) has closed its Reston storefront.
Franchise owner Ralph Alexander Brower told FFXnow that the last burger was served at the RTC West location (12120 Sunset Hills Road) on Saturday, June 15.
“We had great customers, great staff, and it was a great business opportunity,” he said.
BGR is a national burger chain with locations in Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, the District, Tennessee, Utah, and Northern Virginia, including Arlington and Springfield. Its Reston location opened in 2018.
The large BGR signage has already been removed, and a note was posted in the window to officially inform patrons of the closure.
“We are so appreciative of your endless enthusiastic support over the last 5 1/2 years,” the note reads. “It has been our greatest pleasure providing you with great flame grilled angus steak burger, delicious drinks, beer, and hand-crafted milkshakes. In an increasingly difficult climate to run a small business, you have made all our effort and long hours worth it.”
The note also states that its Springfield and Arlington locations remain open for business.
Brower declined to comment on the specific reasons for the closure, echoing the note’s message that it was a challenging area to operate a business.
BRG didn’t respond to FFXnow’s request for comment about the closure.
A new tenant hasn’t been officially announced yet by the property owner, JBG Smith, but the note on the window mentioned that people should “keep a watchful eye in late summer and early-winter.”
“Various restaurant and retail concepts are reviewing the space available and one of those concepts will occupy this space and open to serve you all,” the note said.
Right next door, the new delicatessen and cafe, Kook Dogg, is expected to open within the next few months. Initially slated for an April opening, the launch was delayed due to permitting issues.
