Two teens were arrested in Albemarle County last week in connection to an armed carjacking reported near the Silver Diner in Merrifield.
Officers were dispatched to the 8100 block of Porter Road around 6 a.m. for a robbery after a man called 911, stating that his black Toyota Camry had been stolen, according to the police scanner on Open MHz.
“2 male suspects w/ masks pointed a firearm and ordered the victim out of the car,” the Fairfax County Police Department said in a tweet at 7:13 a.m.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries after one of the suspects allegedly assaulted him before fleeing. Per the scanner, the victim told police that the suspects had arrived in a Jeep that was left at the scene unoccupied.
Described as white with a black stripe on the hood, the Jeep had been reported stolen at the Vienna Metro station, a dispatcher said at 6:08 a.m.
In a news release published on Saturday (July 7), the FCPD confirmed that a 2021 Jeep Compass was reported stolen in the 9500 block of Saintsbury Drive around 5:52 a.m. on Friday (July 6)
“Officers learned that two suspects stole the vehicle while it was left running and unoccupied,” the FCPD said. The Jeep was left at the scene of the carjacking in Merrifield because it became disabled.
The Albemarle County Police Department announced shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday that an officer spotted the stolen Toyota Camry “driving erratically” on Route 29 around 7:38 a.m. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver “fled at a high-rate of speed” before crashing into two vehicles.
The driver and a passenger in the Toyota were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, one with non-life threatening injuries and one in “serious condition.” The drivers of the other vehicles in the crash were evaluated at the scene for injuries not considered life-threatening.
“A firearm was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle,” Albemarle police said.
According to the FCPD, the suspects in the case are 16 and 17 years old. The incident remains under investigation, police say.
