A Fairfax City man has been charged with reckless use of a firearm after allegedly firing a gun inside his home last week.

The City of Fairfax Police Department says its officers responded to the 10000 block of Whitehead Street in the Old Fairfax Mews townhomes at 12:26 a.m. on July 15 after a resident reported that a gun was fired into their home.

“A bullet entered the home and passed through two rooms,” police said. “The residents were present at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.”

According to the police department, an investigation determined that a firearm being “negligently handled” inside an adjacent residence had fired the bullet.

The department announced today (Monday) that a 27-year-old Fairfax man had been served a summons for reckless handling of a firearm.

“We ask that you call 911 or the police non-emergency number to report anything that sounds like gunshots,” Fairfax City police said. “We also ask that you stay vigilant and call to report any suspicious activity. Our officers have increased neighborhood patrols.”
