A bakery is coming to a vacant space in Vienna’s Jades Shopping Center — but not the one initially planned.

Shilla Bakery & Cafe will be moving in at 340 Maple Avenue West, according to a banner that recently appeared above the storefront.

The location was due to become a new outpost for Paul Bakery, based on permits filed with Fairfax County in fall 2022. An employee at Paul Bakery in Tysons Galleria confirmed to FFXnow in January 2023 that the new location was planned but had no potential timeline for construction or an opening.

A request for comment sent to Paul Bakery went unanswered by publication time.

The space was most recently the home of Al Nakheel Lebanese Cafe & Market, which shuttered in 2022. Other businesses in the shopping center include the restaurants Sushi Yama and Thai Mom.

Assuming it’s a brand-new site, rather than a relocation, expanding to Vienna will give Shilla Bakery its sixth location in the D.C. area and its fifth in Fairfax County. The business can currently be found in Annandale, Tysons Corner Center, Chantilly and Centreville, where it has a patisserie.

The Korean bakery, which launched in 1999, offers a full slate of cakes, breads and pastries. Traditional coffee drinks are also available, while some locations also carry breakfast and lunch options.

A request for comment sent to Shilla Bakery went unanswered by press time, but an employee at the Tysons location said the Vienna store will “maybe” open next spring.
