Grants totaling $25,000 will soon be up for grabs for women entrepreneurs in Fairfax City.

The Women’s Entrepreneur Grant Opportunity aims to provide such businesses with “the tools they need to facilitate their growth and expansion,” Fairfax City Economic Development (FCED) announced last week.

Five grants will be awarded to for-profit businesses that are owned by women and located and licensed in Fairfax City. Home-based businesses and startups are eligible.

Applications will be accepted until each of the grants are awarded.

“Investing in their [women business owners] success means finding ways to help them sustain their operations,” Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read said in a statement. “Our Economic Development Department continues to develop programs that address the many facets of business ownership, and we will remain creative in how we support our local businesses.”

The winners will be notified by Sept. 20 and publicly announced at the FCED’s Women Entrepreneurs’ Empowerment Luncheon in September — the first time the event has been held since 2019.

The event, scheduled for Sept. 25, will also feature a panel discussion, as well as networking opportunities with business support services and other female business owners.

Tickets to the event, which will be held at the Sherwood Community Center (3740 Blenheim Blvd), are available via Eventbrite.
