Ice Cream Jubilee will dole out discounted scoops and free hats this Friday (Aug. 23) to celebrate its grand opening in Reston.

After an extended delay related to permitting challenges, the ice cream chain opened its first Fairfax County location at 11990 Market Street, Suite D, in Reston Town Center on Aug. 2.

The business is now planning a more official introduction to the Reston community. Friday’s grand opening festivities will include an offer of free bucket hats to the first 40 customers and $3 single scoops throughout the day.

Typically, one scoop in a cup or sugar cone costs $6.50, Ice Cream Jubilee Chief Marketing Officer Laura O’Shaughnessy confirmed.

“The unwavering support and enthusiasm of our customers inspired us to expand, and we can’t wait to serve our ultra-premium ice cream to even more dessert enthusiasts,” O’Shaughnessy said in a press release. “We are committed to providing an extraordinary experience with every scoop and becoming an integral part of the Reston Town Center community.”

Originally started in D.C.’s Navy Yard in 2014, Ice Cream Jubilee is known for serving unique flavors, such as red bean almond cookie, orange dreamsicle and banana bourbon caramel. The menu also has vegan and dairy-free options, including a dairy-free banana soft serve, as well as baked goods like brownies and chocolate chip cookies, according to the release.

The Reston location is the company’s second in Virginia, following an expansion to Ballston in 2019. Ice Cream Jubilee arrived in Georgetown this spring, and additional sites are planned in D.C.’s Tenleytown, College Park, Maryland, and Falls Church at the West Falls development that’s currently under construction.

In the press release, the business says it’s dedicated to supporting communities in the D.C. area by donating 1% of its sales to local charities based near its shops.

“For charities we will be looking for input from our customers on who to support,” O’Shaughnessy said when asked about the planned Reston beneficiaries. “At other shops we have supported schools, sports teams, human and animal shelters and hospitals.”

The Reston shop opens at noon daily, closing at 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
