Report: French fashion brand, pasta eatery coming to Tysons Galleria

Some more retail changes are in the works at Tysons Galleria.

The mall will feature the first D.C.-area store for Chloé, a Paris, France-based fashion designer that sells clothes, shoes, bags and other accessories, the Washington Business Journal reported on Friday (Aug. 16).

According to the WBJ, Chloé will open a 1,948-square-foot boutique in the former Lady M space. The pastry shop has relocated to a temporary pop-up on the third floor while a new, permanent space on the second floor near RH in the redeveloped Macy’s wing is under construction.

Though a sign wrapped around Lady M’s new space indicates it will open this fall, founder and CEO Ken Romaniszyn says a winter opening is expected. The new location is “comparable in size” to the previous cafe.

Established by Romaniszyn in 2001, Lady M is best known for its signature mille crêpes, cakes made out of 20 alternating layers of crêpes and cream. It also sells chocolates and candies.

“This move is a testament to our continued growth and commitment to providing the best possible experience for our customers,” Romaniszyn said in a statement to FFXnow. “We’re grateful for the support of our loyal patrons and the wonderful environment that Tysons Galleria offers. We’re also thrilled to welcome new additions like Chloe to the mall’s tenant mix.”

Chloé didn’t return a request for comment by press time. Brookfield Properties, Tysons Galleria’s property owner and manager, said it had nothing to add beyond what the WBJ reported.

Founded in the 1950s by Gabriella Aghion, who immigrated to France from Egypt in 1945, Chloé aimed to deliver “romantic, cool and glamorous” fashion to young women and foster emerging talent, including Karl Lagerfeld, who served as the brand’s sole designer in the 1970s, according to its website.

The company expanded beyond clothes into accessories in the 2000s and now has retail boutiques in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America, including in New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles, California.

Located at 2001 International Drive, Tysons Galleria is also slated to welcome the Italian restaurant Scolapasta by the end of this year, according to the WBJ.

The new, fast-casual business will sell freshly made pasta, sauces and toppings, owner Burak Temel told FFXnow’s sister site, ARLnow, earlier this year. Scolapasta is expected to open its first location in Ballston, replacing Pizza Roma at 4219 N. Fairfax Drive, before coming to Tysons.

Temel told ARLnow in February that he anticipated opening in the Arlington neighborhood on June 1, but as of press time, the restaurant still hasn’t launched yet.

It’s unclear where in Tysons Galleria Scolapasta will be located, but the addition could perhaps ease the impending loss of Maggiano’s, which is set to relocate with the Cheesecake Factory to Tysons Corner Center.

Though Tysons Corner Center previously suggested Maggiano’s could move this summer, the east end of the mall that will host both restaurants is still being renovated, and a Maggiano’s employee said she doesn’t know when the Tysons Galleria location will close.

Tysons Galleria patrons might also soon see a name change for Bowlero, which opened on the mall’s first floor in the former Macy’s wing in fall 2021.

Fairfax County is reviewing an occupancy permit that will change the upscale bowling venue’s name to Lucky Strike, another brand that the Bowlero Corporation acquired last year. The Virginia-based company is planning to consolidate both brands under Lucky Strike after finding that it had higher awareness than Bowlero, the WBJ reported last week.

Bowlero didn’t respond to a request for comment on the rebranding by press time.
