A local kabob chain is expanding its footprint in Northern Virginia.

Moby Dick House of Kabob is planning two new locations in Fairfax County — one in Great Falls and one in McLean, according to county permits.

One restaurant is coming to 9902 Georgetown Pike, replacing Señor Ramon Taqueria, which appears to have recently closed. Across the street from the Great Falls Village Centre, it will be the chain’s first location in the neighborhood.

The other will be at 6703 Lowell Avenue in McLean, down the road from Moby Dick’s current location in the area. The new restaurant will take over the Bottega Medici and Lafayette Federal Credit Union storefronts in a vacant retail block that was also home to the shuttered restaurant Cafe Oggi.

The site of the existing McLean location at 6854 Old Dominion Drive was approved for redevelopment last year, triggering a need for the restaurant to relocate.

The chain started in 1989 when founder Mike Daryoush decided to turn Moby’s Luncheonette, an American breakfast and lunch diner he’d started in Bethesda, into a restaurant showcasing the flavors of his native Iran. Moby Dick has since grown to more than 30 locations in the D.C. area, serving a variety of kabobs, salads and pitas.

A Moby Dick spokesperson confirmed the plans for Great Falls and McLean but said the restaurants are still in the early stages. Target opening dates haven’t been determined yet.
