Construction underway on future Reston Whole Foods, replacing Best Buy

After four years, Reston Town Center’s old Best Buy will soon no longer be vacant.

Whole Foods is moving into the 43,266-square-foot space at 1861 Fountain Drive in the Spectrum at Reston Town Center, according to Fairfax County permit records.

A Whole Foods Market spokesperson confirmed that, as previously reported, the Amazon-owned grocer is relocating its current store from nearby Plaza America.

Construction is currently underway at the site, which has been vacant since Best Buy shuttered in October 2020. Plumbing, electrical and other work has begun, and a permit for the installation of an exterior sign is currently under review by county officials.

The Whole Foods spokesperson said no additional information is available yet, including on when the store at 11660 Plaza America Drive will close and when construction is expected to finish.

An employee for the current store said they’re not sure when it will close, but the relocation is expected to take “one more year.”

The grocery store chain, known for its emphasis on natural and organic foods, features dozens of stores in the D.C. area. There are seven in Fairfax County alone, including stores in Vienna, Idylwood and Fair Lakes.
