A growing chain that specializes in soup dumplings and Chongqing noodles is coming to Chantilly.

The next Yu Noodles outpost, helmed by local restaurateur Cody Zhou, will be opening in the former 50 West Armory space in the Sully Place shopping center.

“Soup dumplings and noodles are always my favorite Chinese dishes, and I couldn’t find a good place for them in the Chantilly area,” owner Cody Zhou told FFXnow. “Therefore, I decided to open one by myself.”

The restaurant, housed at 13930 Metrotech Drive, will sit in the same shopping center as Dumpling Queen, which serves handmade dumplings, and Dolan Uyghur, which focuses on hand-pulled noodle dishes, kebabs and other Uyghur cuisine.

Started by Andy Qiu and Tony Cai in 2018, Yu Noodles opened its first restaurant in Rockville, Maryland, and has been steadily growing ever since, expanding to the Fairfax City area, Herndon, Tysons and Silver Spring. The Chantilly location appears to be the first franchise.

Much of Yu Noodles’ popular menu, which includes a variety of chicken and pork soup dumplings and more than a dozen noodle dishes, will remain at the new restaurant, Zhou said.

But Zhou, who operates the neighboring Ocean Crab in Chantilly and Ocean Shack in Arlington, also wants to emphasize seasonal options, allowing customers to become more familiar with the ethnic cuisine.

“The main menu items would be the same,” Zhou said, “but we will try to add some other seasonal specials to let people have the opportunity to see and try different Chinese dishes.”

The restaurant expects to open by some point in April, Zhou said. The lease has just been signed ahead of architectural renderings and interior construction.
