Carnegie Diner in Vienna sells pumpkins to raise funds for school

It’s starting to look a lot like Halloween outside Carnegie Diner and Cafe in Vienna.

The restaurant at 501 Maple Avenue West ushered in October with the launch of an outdoor “Pumpkin Patch” that will supply local residents with gourds and nearby James Madison High School with some funding.

From now until Oct. 31, Carnegie Diner is hosting a pumpkin sale fundraiser that will benefit student programs at the high school. Specifically, the proceeds will support various events for this year’s seniors, the Class of 2025, according to a public relations representative for Carnegie Diner.

“Carnegie Diner & Cafe has a long-standing tradition of community support and giveback efforts, and they’re excited to bring that to the Vienna community,” the representative said.

The cost of the pumpkins is based on their size, ranging from $4 for a small pumpkin to $6 for a medium one or $8 for a large one.

In addition to having pumpkins line its front steps, the diner’s patio has been transformed with a display that features hay, an inflatable witch “doorway” framed by hanging bats, pumpkin patch and scarecrow cutouts for photo opportunities, and other autumnal decor.

Carnegie Diner opened in Vienna on June 5, expanding beyond its New York and New Jersey base for the first time. It serves burgers, salads, pasta, steak and more with an all-day breakfast menu and a variety of drinks and desserts, including a signature 24-layer chocolate cake.
