Langley, Madison football teams enjoy 5-0 starts to season

For the first time in program history, the Langley Saxons are off to a 5-0 start in high-school football action.

With another strong performance, Langley earned its fifth straight win this fall by defeating the host Lightridge Bolts of Aldie, 38-13, on Sept. 27 in Loudoun County.

The Saxons have averaged 43 points in their last three games. In the victory over Lightridge, Langley gained 453 total yards, was ahead 14-7 at halftime and 30-7 at the end of the third period.

Saxons’ quarterback Cole Samburg led the offense, passing for 248 yards and three touchdowns and running for another 60 yards. Hudson Eberline rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns, one for 67 yards. Vincent Shen (four catches, 60 yards) caught two scoring passes and Lee Evans one. Elias Dyrud caught five passes for 84 yards. Jackson Popovich ran for 54 yards.

Mateo Arboleda booted a 26-yard field goal and five extra points.

On defense, Eberline had two interceptions, Ellinton Roane one and Cannon Clarke and Charile Langpaul had fumble recoveries. Eberline, Roane, Clark, Langpaul, Brandon Dinh and Brady Millar were tackling leaders.

Madison High School also undefeated so far

The undefeated Madison Warhawks (5-0) began their Concorde District schedule with a 43-13 home win over the Chantilly Chargers in Sept. 27 high-school football play. Madison amassed 470 total yards, had no turnovers and led 29-0 at halftime.

Leading Madison were quarterback Cael Yates and runningback Dominic Knicely.

Yates threw for 226 yards and five touchdowns, with four of the scoring passes going to Knicely. He had five catches for 196 yards, with a long of 75 for a TD, and ran for 48 yards.

Also for Madison, runningback Matthew Weiler ran for 145 yards and a score, and William Smoot rushed for 29. Anthony Voinis had two catches for 22 yards and Jay Pendry one for eight and a TD.

On defense for Madison, Otis Casey had two interceptions and Alex Gates a fumble recovery. Tackling leaders were Casey, Gates, Luke Salvoso, Graham Gorkowski, Joe Gore, T.J. George, Charlie Backman, Oscar Espanol and Jack Ambruzs.

Julian Hopewell kicked five extra points.
