Kook Dogg Cafe in Reston is raising funds for hurricane relief this coming Monday, Oct. 14.
The cafe will raise funds for World Central Kitchen (WCK), a nonprofit organization that provides free meals to people experiencing crises, from natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic to the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
“While we are a brand new restaurant and don’t have much wiggle room, it was really important to us to try to help,” Kook Dogg Cafe general manager Kristen Brabrook said.
Five percent of the business’s sales will be donated to WCK.
Brabrook said she and the chef and owner Paul Kuchler have been inspired by Spanish American chef and restaurateur Jose Andres, who founded World Central Kitchen in response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
Kook Dogg Cafe opened at 12100 Sunset Hills Road in Reston Town Center West on July 29. Owned by Paul and Noel Kuchler, and Walt and Karen Hodges, it serves pizza, sandwiches, craft beer and other bar-type American food.
Coming just two weeks after Hurricane Helene left a swath of devastation across the southeastern U.S., Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key in central west Florida on Wednesday (Oct. 9) as a Category 3 hurricane. At least 16 people have died, and thousands were left without power.
