Potomac School football team earns first road win this fall

With their first road win of the season, the Potomac School Panthers kept their state playoff hopes alive.

The Panthers (4-2) defeated the host Sidwell Friends Quakers, 28-6, Oct. 10 behind a strong defensive performance and, on offense, the production of runningback Lucas Boulter, who ran for 191 yards on 25 carries, including a three-yard scoring run.

There are only four Division I private-school state playoff berths in Virginia. To earn one of those spots, the Panthers likely can’t afford another loss. With three games against opponents with winning records left to play, there are no guarantees

The Panthers, with just one victory last fall, had 276 yards rushing and 334 total in the game, did not turn the ball over and had just two penalties for five yards. Sidwell had just 182 total yards.

Potomac School led 14-0 at halftime, then scored two more fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Gus Tierney ran three, eight and 16 yards for Potomac School’s other three touchdowns. He had 82 yards rushing. Panther quarterback Sean Sutherland completed five passes for 50 yards and Aarez Ahmed one for eight.

Brendan Sutherland caught three of those passes for 23 yards and Akim Iscandari, Kai Jefferson and Jag Gioia had one catch each. Stefan Harvey booted four extra points.

For the season, Boutler has 723 yards rushing.

On defense for the Panthers, Aarez had an interception. Iscandari, Richard Perry and Gioia had fumble recoveries and were among tackling leaders, along with Iscandari, Perry, Tierney, Mack Repke, Graham LaForce and E.J. Schneeberg.

Potomac School hosts Maret (5-1) on Saturday (Oct. 19) at 1 p.m. Finishing out the regular-season schedule are games against St. James (4-3) and North Cross (5-1).
