Vienna’s The Mixx Delight closing indefinitely next month, hopes to relocate

A Vienna restaurant will close its doors indefinitely next month as it looks for a new home.

The Mixx Delight’s last day of business at 448 Maple Avenue East will be Nov. 17, the restaurant shared on social media earlier this week. The closure was not the restaurant’s choice, co-owner Phi Tran told FFXnow.

“We got so blindsided by what was going on and [the landlord’s] intention of what they’re doing with their property,” Tran said. “It’s definitely a landlord thing, and they already have new tenants coming in December.”

A representative for the landlord said that The Mixx Delight had an option to renew its lease, a claim that Tran adamantly denied.

The closure announcement was first reported by Patch.

Where exactly the restaurant will move — if it’s able to reopen at all — is still up in the air.

“Unfortunately we have not secured a place to relocate our store,” Tran said. “It will sadly be a little time before we do, being that we poured all our investment into the place in Vienna and now need to start over.”

The short-term focus is to find a new kitchen, which would allow the restaurant to keep up with its catering operations over the holiday season, Tran said.

Staying near the restaurant’s client base is ideal, but other options around Fairfax are being considered.

“Inside [Vienna] is more prime area, and the square footage, the pricing is just not what we can afford,” Tran said. “In two years we’ve built a good momentum, but it’s still growing.”

Opened early last year, the Mixx Delight’s brick-and-mortar storefront has its origins rooted in a pair of food trucks. The savory New Gourmet Delight launched in 2015, which was followed by the dessert-focused Sweet Gourmet Delight not long after.

The storefront, housed in the Wolftrappe Shopping Center, incorporates flavors from both. The Mixx Delight’s menu offers primarily Asian fusion cuisine, including banh mi panini sandwiches, bao buns and more.

For dessert, offerings range from pastries like yuzu poppyseed cake to a variety of loaf cakes and crème brûlées.

The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until its closure. Meanwhile, the business will continue running its food truck.

“Our food truck is still operating for private events and catering events of any kind, any size,” Tran said.
