Flint Hill, Potomac School to play under temporary football lights in Friday-night action

There are no permanent lights on the football fields at either Flint Hill School in Oakton and the Potomac School in McLean.

Yet, because temporary lights have been installed on each gridiron at the private schools, the football teams will host separate Friday-night games on Oct. 25.

Flint Hill entertains the Maret Frogs at 6 p.m. and Potomac School takes on St. James at 7 p.m. Past games have drawn big student sections at the Flint Hill and Potomac School games.

The once-a-season Friday-night football contests under the temporary lights have become annual events at the schools, the third straight for Potomac School and the second for Flint Hill. There is no immediate plan to expand beyond one home night game per season at either school, although it has been discussed in the past.

Flint Hill enters the Oct. 25 contest with a 1-6 record and Potomac School is 4-3. Each lost in its previous games on Oct. 19.

Flint Hill fell to St. Michael the Archangel, 36-18, in Fredericksburg.

Senior quarterback Caleb West passed for 224 yards in the loss and threw a couple of touchdown passes. One went for 82 yards to Ty Harris and another for 15 to Victor McNeal.

Bryce Stewart had a couple of catches, one for 36 yards. Damian Snell was Flint Hill’s leading rusher.

Each team has one remaining game, both on the road, following the Oct. 25 contests.
