A motorcyclist died last week following a crash on Old Keene Mill Road in Burke.
Officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the Field Master Drive intersection around 3:53 p.m. on Oct. 30, the Fairfax County Police Department reported today (Monday) in a press release.
According to police, Mohammed Rastegar, 72, of Springfield is believed to have been traveling east on Old Keene Mill Road on a 2018 Honda motorcycle when the driver of a 2017 Honda Civic tried to turn left from northbound Field Master Drive to westbound Old Keene Mill Road.
Rastegar crashed into the sedan, suffering injuries that police say weren’t considered life-threatening. However, he ultimately died from his injuries in a hospital that evening.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash,” the FCPD said in the release. “Preliminarily, speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.”
Rastegar is the third person to be killed in a crash on Old Keene Mill Road this year and the second motorcyclist.
In April, 50-year-old Burke resident Mohab Helmy died after allegedly crashing into a sedan that was attempting to turn left onto the roadway from Rolling Valley shopping center. Then, in September, a pedestrian was hit by a driver near Irving Middle School in Springfield.
