Fairfax County police are investigating three different fatal pedestrian crashes that occurred over the past week.

Last Thursday (Sept. 19) around 9:38 p.m., Oscar Daniel Martinez Granados, 24, of Woodbridge was hit by a driver in the 8100 block of Old Keene Mill Road near Irving Middle School in Springfield, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Granados was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday (Sept. 21), the FCPD reported in a press release yesterday (Sunday).

According to the police, a preliminary investigation found that Granados wasn’t in a crosswalk when he “walked into” the eastbound lanes of Old Keene Mill Road. The driver of an Acura sedan was headed east on the road when it hit him.

There is a crosswalk across Old Keene Mill from the school’s exit at Ainsworth Avenue.

“Detectives believe that alcohol does not appear to be a factor for the driver, and speed is still under investigation,” the FCPD said. “The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.”

Centreville man dies in Route 29 crash

Police are also looking into a crash in Centreville that killed 56-year-old man Saturday night.

In a press release published Monday (Sept. 23), the FCPD said Tracy Roane was walking in the northbound lanes of Route 29 when the driver of a Nissan SUV struck him just past White Post Road.

“Roane remained in the roadway and was struck by additional vehicles,” the FCPD said. “He was declared deceased, and all drivers remained at the scene.”

Eastbound Route 29 closed while Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives investigated, reopening shortly after midnight yesterday. Police are still investigating whether the drivers’ speed contributed to the crash and whether alcohol was involved for Roane.

Woman injured in Oakton crash dies

Another pedestrian crash that occurred earlier on Saturday has also turned fatal.

A female pedestrian was hit by a driver near Oakton Shopping Center around 8:42 a.m. that day. Choon Kook, an 80-year-old Vienna resident, was hospitalized with injuries considered life-threatening and later died, the FCPD announced last night.

According to police, Kook was using the crosswalk at Hunter Mill Road and Lynnhaven Place when a driver in a Ford F-150 hit her while trying to turn into the shopping center from Hunter Mill Road.

Right now, the FCPD doesn’t think speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

“The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated,” the department said in a news release.
