The man convicted of involuntary manslaughter following a crash in Bailey’s Crossroads that claimed the life of a 93-year-old woman will spend the next 18 months behind bars.

Isai Jimenez Paz, 24, of Arlington, received a 10-year sentence in Fairfax County Circuit Court on Friday (Nov. 15), though eight years and six months of that sentence are suspended, according to court records.

Following his release, Jimenez Paz will face a three-year probationary period where any violations of his probation would trigger the remainder of the sentence. His driver’s license has also been suspended for two years, according to court records.

Jimenez Paz was charged in February in connection to the Feb. 16 crash, where police believe he was speeding before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and South Jefferson Street.

“[He] was driving a Toyota GR86 at a high speed westbound on Leesburg Pike,” police said. “The driver of a Toyota Corolla attempted a left turn onto a service road near South Jefferson Street from the eastbound lane of Leesburg Pike. Jimenez Paz struck the Corolla.”

Both Jimenez Paz and his passenger, as well as the two occupants of the Corolla, were taken to nearby hospitals. Falls Church resident Gladys Bilbao, a passenger in the Corolla, was pronounced dead five days after the crash.

Bilbao was the seventh person to die this year from a crash in Fairfax County, a statistic that has since jumped to 43, by FFXnow’s estimation. As of Friday, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles had 39 fatalities recorded for the year, but its database hasn’t been updated yet to include an Oct. 30 motorcycle crash or three deaths over Veterans Day weekend.
