Three field-hockey players each from Oakton, Fairfax teams win all-state honors

Three players from the state-runner-up Oakton Cougars girls field-hockey team were chosen to the Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state first team, as were three from Fairfax High School.

Oakton senior forward Avery DeKoven, junior midfielder Marisa Rubano and freshman defender Daniella Rubano were Oakton’s first-team selections.

The trio helped the Cougars win Concorde District and 6D North Region tournaments and finish with a 22-3 overall record. The squad lost to the Yorktown Patriots in the state final.

Oakton competed for the state championship for the first time in program history.

DeKoven and Marisa Rabano were top goal scorers for Oakton, and Danielle Rubano was a leader in assists.

Also chosen to the first team were three players from Fairfax High School: senior goalie Lila Seifert, senior midfielder Kaia Beaudoin and junior forward Sawyer Anderson.

Other players making first team from Fairfax County high schools were Woodson senior defender Kelby Lennen, Annandale junior midfielder Callia Uviedo and Marshall junior midfielder Paige Pehrkon.

Fairfax County players earning second-team honors were senior forward Casto Claire and junior midfielder Teagan Hastings from Madison, senior goalie Georg Harsh and senior Kelsey Dolan from Westfield, junior defender Sofia Saavedra from Annandale, Woodson senior forward Siena Niedrick and West Potomac senior defender Mary Shaw Walsh.
