Northbound traffic entering Tysons on the Capital Beltway is at a standstill as a result of a tractor-trailer fire.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units were dispatched to I-495 North under eastbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7) for a truck fire around 6:37 p.m.
“Firefighters arrived to the truck cab fully involved,” the FCFRD said at 7 p.m. “Crews contained the fire to the cab. The fire is under control.”
No injuries have been reported. A hazmat team was included in the incident response, which is standard procedure for tractor-trailer fires “because of the diesel fuel and any potential hazardous cargo,” FCFRD spokesperson Ashley Hildebrandt says.
“There was none here,” she told FFXnow.
As of 7:45 p.m., all northbound general-purpose lanes on the Beltway remained closed, though the express lanes reopened around 7:17 p.m. Traffic backups extend approximately two miles, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s traffic cameras.
