Herndon/South Lakes, Langley at top of ice-hockey standings

A few matches into the Northern Virginia Scholastic Ice Hockey League, the Herndon/South Lakes club team leads the Adams Division with a 4-0 record, with the multiple-time defending champion Langley Saxons at 4-1 with a four-match winning streak.

Also in the division, the Madison Warhawks are 2-2, the Oakton Cougars 2-3 and the McLean/Chantilly high-school squad 1-3. Langley and Herndon/South Lakes meet later in the season.

In the league’s Smythe Division, the Flint Hill team is 0-3.

Through five matches for Langley, Alexander Oehm is the team’s top scorer with four goals and two assists. James Plourde has two goals and three assists for Langley, Jihan Eksi has a goal and four assists, Ethan Zhao has two goals and an assist, and James Wu has two goals.

Langley opened its season with a 2-1 loss to Heritage/Rock Ridge, then defeated Oakton, 5-0, Flint Hill, 7-1, Riverside, 3-0, and Madison, 3-2. Langley next plays on Dec. 20.

Herndon/South Lakes has defeated Madison, 4-3, Chantilly/McLean, 11-1, Independence, 3-2, and Kettle Run, 3-2. For Herndon, Ryan Jones has seven goals and two assists, Noah White has three goals and two assists, Gavin Mullen has three goals, and Clark Crosson two goals and four assists.

For Madison, Taizo Cesari has scored seven goals, and Dean Pomeroy has six and two assists.

Oakton’s Jackson Mika has four goals and four assists.
