Fairfax wrestling teams place at annual Chantilly tournament

The host Chantilly Chargers finished third while three other Fairfax County high-school teams placed among the top squads at the annual Joe Verciglio Memorial wrestling tournament.

Grassfield High School from Chesapeake won the 16-team competition with 246.5 points. Chantilly had 167.

The tournament attracts some of the top public-school teams in the state.

The other top Fairfax teams were the Westfield Bulldogs in fourth, the West Springfield Spartans seventh and the Robinson Rams eighth.

Chantilly was led by three individual champions: Michael Santos at 106 pounds, Carter Shin at 113 and Tyler Dekraker at 132. Third for Chantilly was Dennis Meza Velasquez at 190. Fourth were Adonis Iparraguirre at 150 and Todd Lett at 175.

Westfield was led by champion Easlick at 138. Second for Westfield was Jake Brubaker at 165. Third was Noah Ayers at 157. Fourth were Davalon Young at 126, Brendan Sholders at 132 and Adrian Katsiske at 215. Fifth were Caiden Lucenten at 120 and Dylan Gwyn at 144.

Leading West Springfield was champion Wyan Snoddy at 190. Second was David Carey at 175.

Leading Robinson was runner-up Troy Kang at 120. Third were Jacob Lauby at 126 and Christopher Tomer at 175. Cody Freisz was fourth at 285 and Isaac Sorenson fifth at 165.

Third for West Springfield were Gregory Barnett II at 144 and Abai Beishembiev at 150. Fourth was Matthew Kidd at 165.
