Fairfax County’s first major school boundaries overhaul in 40 years is set to move into its next phase.

With the last in a series of community engagement events set for Friday (June 6), the complicated effort of redrawing boundary lines will soon shift to a 95-member Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee.

An already standout season for the Chantilly Chargers became the best ever when the boys swimming and diving team won its first state championship last week.

The Chargers won the Virginia High School League Class 6 title in Stafford with 284 points, 50 ahead of the runner-up and defending champion Langley Saxons.

With a district tournament title and runner-up finishes in region and state tournaments under their belt, the Chantilly Chargers enjoyed one of the school’s best wrestling seasons ever.

On Saturday (March 1), Chantilly placed second in the Virginia High School League Class 6 state competition in Virginia Beach with three individual champions and 165 points. The Grassfield Grizzlies of Chesapeake won with 192.5 points.

The Chantilly Chargers narrowly won the team title and had the individual all-around winner at the girls 6D North Region gymnastics championship this week.

The Chargers won their first team regional crown since 2011 with a 141.450 score during the Monday (Feb. 10) meet at Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington.

A young Oakton Cougars squad continued an established tradition by winning another Concorde District girls gymnastics championship.

Oakton High won a fifth straight title, by fractions, over the Chantilly Chargers, finishing first with a 139.625 team score. Chantilly had 139.175. The Madison Warhawks were third at 137.025.

This season it was the Chantilly Chargers’ turn to win the boys Concorde District swimming and diving championship.

The Chargers won the crown Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Cub Run Rec Center in Chantilly with 565 points. The defending champion Oakton Cougars were second with 443 in the high-school meet.

The stage is set for a showdown for first in Concorde District girls basketball between neighborhood rivals Chantilly Chargers and Centreville Wildcats.

The game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Centreville.

The host Chantilly Chargers finished third while three other Fairfax County high-school teams placed among the top squads at the annual Joe Verciglio Memorial wrestling tournament.

Grassfield High School from Chesapeake won the 16-team competition with 246.5 points. Chantilly had 167.

An individual state champion and members of a state-title team are among those chosen to Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state girls and boys teams for the 2024 fall season.

Chantilly Chargers’ senior Tristan Thurneysen, who won the Class 6 state championship, heads the all-state boys team. He also won district and region titles preceding the state meet.
