Local players key members of Gettysburg women’s hoop team

Two local players who graduated from Fairfax County schools continue as big contributors for the success of the Gettysburg College women’s basketball team this season.

Both are starting junior guards: Alayna Arnolie a graduate of Madison High School and A.B. Holsinger is a Langley High grad. The two have helped the Bullets to an 11-1 overall record through Jan. 7 action.

Through 12 games, Arnolie leads Gettysburg in multiple categories. She is the leading scorer, averaging 16 points per game, is first in steals with 34 and has made the most three-pointers with 23.

Arnolie is second in assists with 29 and fourth in rebounding, pulling an average of 4.1 a game. She had 13 points and six steals in Gettysburg’s most recent game.

Arnolie was the Player of the Year last season in the Centennial Conference, helping Gettysburg reach the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Arnolie has scored 908 career points through 12 games this season.

Holsinger averages eight points per game and is Gettysburg’s fourth leading scorer. She is the team leader with 44 assists, averages 3.1 rebounds per game, has 13 steals and has made 13 three-pointers.

Holsinger has scored 420 career points through 12 games this season.

In high school, both were all-district, all-region and all-state players. Arnolie helped Madison win multiple Virginia High School League Class 6 state championships. Langley was an annual contender for all three titles when Holsinger played for the Saxons.

Arnolie has a twin sister, Grace, who is playing Division I college basketball in the Ivy League for the Brown University women’s team. Through 14 games this season, Grace Arnolie leads the team in scoring (13.9 points per game), is first in assists with 56 and steals with 25, and has made 24 three-pointers. She averages 3.4 rebounds a contest.

Grace Arnolie has scored 887 career points, meaning both sisters have a good chance to reach the 1,000-point milestone this season.
