Runners for the Marshall Statesmen were successful at two different track-and-field meets this past weekend, helping the girls and boys teams win titles at one of the competitions.
Marshall won championships at the high-school meet among Fairfax County teams at Thomas Jefferson Community Center in Arlington. The girls won with 86 points and the boys with 82.
Winning races for the Marshall girls were Isabella Gervase in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.11 seconds, Emelia Diccolo in the 55 dash (8.50), Maya Lang in the 500 (1:32.22) and Julia Friefeld in the 1,600 (6:23.32). Second for Marshall in a girls race was Olivia Critchfield in the 500.
The race-winners for the Marshall boys were Elijah Smith in the 55 hurdles (9.2), Kanuux Chaudhuri in the 55 dash (6.71) and Jonathan Peed in the 1,000 (3:10.33). Second for the Marshall boys were George Owino in the 55 dash and Colin Frizell in the 55 hurdles.
At the Liberty Premier Invitational meet at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Marshall’s Samantha Dabich was sixth in the 1,600 (5:21.82) and eighth in the 500 (1:23.13).
Other boys from Fairfax County schools winning events at the Thomas Jefferson center meet were Mount Vernon’s Luis Montoya in the 500 (1:19.98), Edison’s Oliver Kennelly in the 1,600 (5:23.13), Edison’s Adam Pulis in the high jump (6-feet) and Woodson’s Barrett Pullen in the shot put (53-6).
Other girls event winners at the meet from Fairfax County schools were Edison’s Lilah Spearman in the 55 dash (8.44), Chantilly’s Ava Benevento in the 1,000 (3:33.3), Annandale’s Ta’niy Peterkin in the high jump (4-10) and Annandale’s Joelle Brew-Riverson in the shot (32-6).
