Langley girls win key game in Liberty District basketball action

Leading start to finish, the Langley Saxons won a key game in Liberty District girls basketball action against the host Washington-Liberty Generals.

With the 53-38 victory Wednesday night (Jan. 15), Langley (11-3) remained in first place in the district with a 5-0 record.

The Saxons built a quick 7-0 lead against Washington-Liberty and led 11-5 at the end of the first quarter of the high-school game.

The Generals cut the lead to 15-14, followed by a 16-0 run covering portions of the second and third quarters giving Langley control with a 31-14 advantage.

The district loss dropped Washington-Liberty to 2-2 in the league. The Generals, Saxons and McLean Highlanders (3-0) are expected to battle for the district title this season.

Langley and McLean meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 5:45 p.m. at McLean.

Leading Langley against W-L was 1,000-point career scorer Anya Rahman. The senior had 19 points, making four three-pointers. She also had four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Rahman shot well from the floor in the second half, hitting four of five shots, three of them three-pointers.

Freshmen Alice Allen and Mariah Armah each scored 14 for the Saxons. Allen added five rebounds and Armah three. Senior forward Peyton Daley had eight rebounds and two assists, with junior Maddie Shamloo having six points and two assists.

Langley defeated the Marshall Statesmen in its previous district game, 50-35.
