Flint Hill School football players aim to make impact at college level

The pipeline of Flint Hill School graduates to college football teams keeps on growing.

As some high-school senior football players at the Flint Hill School have recently made commitments to play the sport at the next level, at least three others were freshmen members of college squads this past fall season.

Two of those players, freshmen Josh Clarke and Andrew King, were impactful players for Division I college squads.

King was a 5-8, 185-pound runningback for the University of Richmond Spiders. He played in 11 games this past season, rushing for 267 yards (third most on the team) on 46 carries and two touchdowns, and catching six passes for 75 yards.

His longest run was 63 yards.

King’s best game was against North Carolina A&T State University, when he rushed for 100 yards on six carries.

King was a second-team Division I all-state private school-player his senior year at Flint Hill.

“He was one of the strongest players we’ve had — he ran so hard and loved contact,” Flint Hill coach Kirk Peterson said.

Clarke was a 6-2 freshman cornerback for Virginia Tech. He played in two games, including a bowl contest, and made two tackles.

At Flint Hill during his senior season, Clarke was a two-way first-team all-state player as a wide receiver and defensive back.

“Josh Clarke is one of the best players we have had. He can play any position,” Peterson said.

Flint Hill graduate Caleb Chijoke Ihegihu was a freshman linebacker on the Ivy League tri-champion Columbia University team this past fall.

Chijoke Ihegihu also was a basketball player and a track and field standout at Flint Hill, setting multiple school records in various events.

“He was maybe the best athlete we had here,” Peterson said.

Four players from this past fall’s Flint Hill team have made commitments to play college football.

Kobe Davis and Victor McNeal, both wide receivers and defensive backs, will play at Division I Hampton University and the United States Military Academy, respectively.

Two-way lineman Luke Richardson will play at Division III Tufts University in Massachusetts. Damian Snell, who played multiple positions, will play at Division III Kenyon College in Ohio.

This past season, Davis was a second-team all-state defensive back and McNeal a second-team all-state wide receiver.

Caleb West was Flint Hill’s first-team all-state quarterback this past fall. He has not yet made a final decision about where he will play college football.
