Chantilly boys take their turn to win district swim-dive title

This season it was the Chantilly Chargers’ turn to win the boys Concorde District swimming and diving championship.

The Chargers won the crown Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Cub Run Rec Center in Chantilly with 565 points. The defending champion Oakton Cougars were second with 443 in the high-school meet.

Chantilly and Oakton have traded winning the titles the last few years. The Chargers were a close second in 2024.

“This was an amazing effort by all the athletes, coaches and parents,” Chantilly coach James MacKenzie told FFXnow. “There were many great individual and team achievements. We can’t wait to see how the rest of the postseason shakes out.”

This winter, Chantilly boys finished first in 11 events, including winning all three relays and seven individual races. Ivor Brown won the diving event with a lofty point total of 544.8.

Chantilly’s three double winners in swim races were Yaron Li (50 freestyle, 20.67 and 100 free, 44.98, both team records), Ben Farello (200 free, 1:41.27 and 100 butterfly, 50.03) and Kyle Li (individual medley, 1:51.85, district record and 100 breaststroke, 55.84, team record).

Yaron Li also swam on the winning 200 (1:23.61) and 400 (3:07.03, district record) free relays. Kyle Li was on the medley (1:33.5, team record) and 200 relays, and Farello was a member of the 200 and 400 teams.

Blake Madsen won the 500 free (4:44.81), was third in the IM and was on the medley and 400 relays.

The Chargers’ Ben Clabeaux was second in the 50 free and 100 free and a member of the medley and 400 relays.

Also for the Chargers, Jason Xin was second in the fly and fourth in the 100 backstroke, Aiden Wong was seventh in the 100 and 200 free and a 400 relay swimmer, Lou Murphy was sixth in the fly, Ben Matyas was seventh in the fly and eighth in the 200 free, and Nate Murphy seventh in the back.
