Police set up a barricade at the CIA headquarters in McLean this morning (Wednesday) in response to a possibly armed man who appears to have been experiencing a mental health crisis.
Fairfax County police were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. to assist the CIA police. Responders described a man with a gun to his head on a bench outside the facility’s security gate, according to the police scanner.
While scanner traffic suggested that “several rounds” may have been fired, law enforcement officials told ABC News that no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
A CIA spokesperson confirmed that law enforcement responded to an “ongoing incident” but said only that more details would be shared “as appropriate.”
Route 123 (Dolley Madison Blvd) was shut down in both directions between Georgetown Pike and Savile Lane for the “barricade incident,” the Fairfax County Police Department said at 11:15 a.m.
“Our Special Operations Division is on scene assisting. Please follow police direction,” the FCPD said.
In an update shortly before 3:30 p.m., the department shared that an individual was taken into custody, and Dolley Madison Blvd has reopened to traffic.
“The barricade incident has been resolved,” the FCPD said. “The suspect surrendered to FCPD negotiators and is in custody.”
