A 20-year-old man from Maryland was arrested earlier this week for allegedly stealing from a gaming supply store in Fairfax City while dressed as Spider-Man.
Officers with the City of Fairfax Police Department were dispatched at 11:01 a.m. last Saturday (March 15) for a report of a burglary that occurred overnight at Gaming Giant (4021 University Drive), according to a press release.
“Investigation revealed that an unknown male dressed in a Spiderman costume forced entry into the business and stole approximately $10,000 worth of merchandise,” Fairfax City police said.
The man broke into the store after it had closed Friday night (March 14), Gaming Giant said on Instagram. The stolen items included “numerous graded slabs as well as sealed Pokemon product.”
The business said it was working with local authorities to address the situation and “taking measures to ensure customer safety.” The store opened late on Saturday but has otherwise maintained its regular operating hours.
The City of Fairfax Police Department announced today that a 20-year-old man from Silver Springs was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) after investigators identified him as the suspect with the help of community members.

The man has been charged with burglary. He was released from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on an unsecured bond, police said.
Gaming Giant sells collectible trading cards for Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and other games, along with related supplies, such as card sleeves and display boxes. It also hosts tournaments and events.
This isn’t the first time a Spider-Man disguise has reportedly been used in a crime in Fairfax County. In 2023, Fairfax County police said one of four people who allegedly led officers on a cross-state chase after a carjacking in Maryland was wearing a Spider-Man mask or costume.
